Thousands take streets for Carnival Parade of Bands

Port-of-Spain: Thousands of revellers are at this time parading through the streets of Port-of-Spain on the first day of the 2012 Carnival Parade of the Bands.

Bands, participating in the large, medium and small categories are required to cross at least three judging points to be selected as the band of the year. Those points can be any among the Queen's Park Savannah, Picadilly Greens, Adam Smith Square and Downtown Port-of-Spain.

Most of the bands traditionally parade in portions of their costumes, leaving the main colourful costumes of feather, beads and other fanciful attire for Carnival Tuesday, the last day of Carnival celebrations.

Among the big bands that have crossed the stage so far are Tribe and Trini Revellers, while other massive bands on the street are Brian MacFarlane, Island People, Dream Team Carnival, Harts,  Fantasy and Yuma.

The Meteorological Office has forecasted bright and sunny weather all day.
