Leeward Islands and Antiguan wicketkeeper/batsman Devon “Boobie” Thomas is one of six new players called up for the West Indies limited overs tour of Bangladesh, starting on November 30.
The 23-year-old native of Willikies was on Sunday named in a 15-man squad for the series, which comprises five One-Day Internationals (ODI) and a single Twenty20.
Thomas last played for West Indies during the last two ODIs against New Zealand in July when he replaced regular gloveman Denesh Ramdin who was getting married in his homeland Trinidad and Tobago.
Prior to that, he had not played in maroon colours for over a year, following his outing in last year’s World Cup on the Asian subcontinent.
He will replace Ramdin who was named for the two-Test series but not retained for the limited overs phase of the tour.
Thomas joins fit-again pacer Kemar Roach, exciting all-rounder Andre Russell, openers Lendl Simmons and Dwayne Smith, and the big-hitting Kieron Pollard, who has been named as captain Darren Sammy’s deputy.
Ramdin, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Fidel Edwards, Kirk Edwards and Assad Fudadin will return home following the second Test, which bowls off on Wednesday.
Experienced all-rounder Dwayne Bravo remains injured and was not considered for selection.
