Teen stabbed after school fete

St. John's Antigua: Police are probing a stabbing incident that has left a teenager in stable but serious condition with severe damage to his intestines, according to a report in the Antigua Observer.

Sources said the 17-year-old was among a group leaving a school fete in St John’s late Thursday night when a fight broke out near Stephen B Shouls on Lower Market Street. Stones and bottles were brought into the fray, the Observer said.

The teen sustained injuries from an unidentified weapon. In addition, 23-year-old Choy Browne who had just left the movie theatre and was walking downtown, was caught up in the melee and was struck in the face by a bottle thrown by another man, causing a gash across his nose.

While the teen had to be admitted, Browne received five stitches and was discharged shortly after midnight.

The mother of the teen, who did not reveal her name, told OBSERVER Media the young man was supposed to be on the way home when he was injured. She received a call some time after 21:00hrs Thursday about the attack on her son.

She went to the hospital but has not been able to talk to him about the incident.

The Observer said that the incident occurred just days before his 18th birthday on Monday. His mother said she is glad her son is still alive.

The other injured man, Browne, said he was walking along the Shoul's building when he felt an object hit his face.

"I didn't get a warning. I just felt this hard thing hit my face and when I felt my nose it was wet. It was blood," Browne told this reporter.

He said he looked up and saw a brawl further up the street. One person had a stick in his hands and others were shouting.

He said he went to the hospital but after waiting a lengthy time he left and went to the police and made a report, the Observer stated.

Police have no suspects and are continuing their investigations
