Taxi driver acquitted on murder charge

Berbice: Vincent Dennis Vandenburgh, 27, called ‘Wilder’ who was charged with murder walked out of the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court Thursday as a free man after the presiding magistrate discharged the case.

Vandenburgh who was a taxi driver was on trial for allegedly killing Lord Edwards, called Junior, or Rastaman, of Edinburgh Village, East Bank Berbice, and formerly of King Street, New Amsterdam, at Edinburgh in 2010.

Edwards, 43, was found dead lying in a pool of blood in a yard. Edwards had taken his car to a workshop in the village and the duo had an argument which caused the accused to pick up a piece of metal attacking the driver who ran into a mechanic shop.  The driver who had a knife in his possession was attacked by a group of men who stabbed him several times.

A post mortem examination performed on the body by Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan at the New Amsterdam hospital gave the cause of death as shock and haemorrhage due to multiple injuries.
