Surinamese students in Guyana to look at agri initiatives- call on Minister Alli Baksh

Minister Alli-BakshGeorgetown: Students of the Polytechnic College of Suriname paid a courtesy visit to Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture Alli Baksh, on Tuesday.

The nine-member delegation was supervised by Mr. Hesdie J. Grauwd, lecturer at the college, and former FAO Policy officer.

The delegation is in Guyana to visit agricultural initiatives, in order to gain a firsthand understanding of policies, programmes, role of the Government and in particular the Ministry of Agriculture, other key institutions such as the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), Go-Invest and the Inter American Institute on Cooperation for Agriculture (IICA) in the transformation of the sector; and respective contributions of farmers and agribusiness people.

The Ministry of Agriculture has facilitated and sponsored a five-day tour, comprising visits to: the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA), National Agriculture Research and Extension Institute (NAREI), Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GLDA), Aquaculture Research Station, Rice Research Station at Burma, Rice processing mill, Bio-Ethanol Plant at Albion, Guyana Marketing Corporation’s Guyana Shop, GMC’s Agro Packaging Facility at Sophia, Go-Invest, FAO, IICA, Skeldon Sugar Factory and St. Stanislaus Farm.
