Georgetown : Suriname Airways will fly from Georgetown to Miami from April to provide convenient travelling for Guyanese and foreigners.
Acting Minister of Tourism, Irfaan Ali announced the service commended Suriname Airways for the bold initiative which it has taken to link Guyana, Suriname and Miami.
Suriname Airways’ Vice President of Commercial Affairs Dr. Clyde Cairo believes that Guyana will be the prime beneficiary of the new Miami-Georgetown flight service since travellers will be going in and out of Guyana on a regular basis. “This new Georgetown-Miami flight service now holds many new opportunities for Guyanese and our brothers who live in Miami and North America,” he said.
Cairo pointed out that passengers to Europe, India and China, can now choose to travel through Georgetown since it is more costly to do so when travelling through Paramaribo.
Minister Ali disclosed that Government has been called upon to seek investment and opportunities for “We will be actively engaging stakeholders in order to satisfy this request…Suriname Airways has an excellent opportunity to pick up this challenge, which I am sure they will,” he said.
The Flag carrier of neighbouring Suriname will link Guyana’s capital Georgetown with Suriname’s Paramaribo and Miami.
The Georgetown-Miami flight service will be the first service connecting the two cities in over a decade.
