Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart has sent a congratulatory letter to the President-Elect of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, H.E. Nicolas Maduro Moros.

Mr. Stuart said in the letter: "Your ascension to this high office is an indication that the people have reposed confidence in you to further elevate their lives and to take the country forward.

"I expect that the tradition of fraternity that exists between our two countries will be strengthened during your tenure. Over the years, Barbados and Venezuela have cultivated an inter-cultural understanding that is the foundation of a new phase of cooperation. I am, therefore, optimistic that our administrations can work together in the framework of established bilateral mechanisms, to enhance political dialogue, and mutually create sustainable economic opportunities for our citizens."

Prime Minister Stuart said he knew President Maduro was committed to the ideals of integration, and south-south cooperation. "This is exemplified by your country's involvement in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) and other hemispheric bodies. Barbados looks forward to ongoing engagements with Venezuela in these fora," he stated.

The Ambassador of Barbados to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, H.E. Sandra Phillips, will represent the Prime Minister at the inauguration ceremony being held there for the installation of the new President.
