STARR Computers introduces Samsung Smart School

Smart School ProjectGeorgetown: Many Governments around the globe are building their education investment roadmaps aligned to the digitized classroom initiative and STARR Computers in collaboration with technology giant Samsung have collaborated to introduce the “Samsung Smart School” to enhance learning with the latest technologies.

The presentations were made by Samsung officials at Starr Computer 59 Brickdam, Friday morning. In attendance were Samsung’s Head of Enterprise Division Marco Osio, Manager Regional Solutions Arsenio Ramos Leguizamon, teachers from the technical institute along with STARR representatives.

The team had already met with President Donald Ramotar and Minister of Education Priya Manickchand this week, and there was a positive view of a pilot project being implemented.

Samsung’s Smart School Solution operates in conjunction with the GALAXY Note 10.1, Samsung’s latest Android-powered tablet device featuring the advanced S Pen technology. The S Pen provides the functionality and precision of a pen and paper on the tablet’s 10.1-inch display, opening up new opportunities for digital learning. Students access the solution via WiFi with a single convenient log-in, while teachers can instruct the class using an interactive whiteboard display, or TV or projector wirelessly controlled by a tablet or notebook PC.

The Samsung Smart School Solution delivers three integrated systems that empower teachers to create an interactive and engaging virtual learning environment:

Interactive Management Solution allows teachers to easily deliver contents to students, share their own or an individual student’s screen with the class, and monitor student progress in real-time. Instructors can conduct group activities, Q&As, tests or instant polls, and then instantly call the class to attention by locking student screens via voice command.

Learning Management System allows teachers to provide course materials including e-textbooks, learning apps and timetables, as well as delivering school notices and forums for extracurricular activities, which can be accessed by students at any time.

Student Information System is a management tool which enables teachers to track student attendance, general information, grade history and prizes or demerit points.

PresentationAccording to Samsung’s Head of Enterprise Division Marco Osio, today’s educational paradigm is shifting to students-centric learning and advancements in digital technology have opened new avenues for interaction and collaboration in classrooms.

With this, Osio noted that the shifting educational landscape brings to schools new opportunities to provide personalized and adaptive learning to students.

Underscoring that the dynamic learning experience provided by rich digital content, digitally native students can actively participate in the classroom and enhance their understanding of learning materials, the Samsung rep said the student-centric method of teaching is based on more interactive, collaborative learning which helps better engage students to gain 21th century skills and realize their full potential.

“Samsung smart school is the leading solution across the globe and several case studies happening in Europe, Asia, America and now Latin America can prove that and Guyana will be a case study for the world to see.” He underscored.

Manager Regional Solutions Arsenio Ramos Leguizamon disclosed that “smart education” is incorporating the advanced technology which offers more well informed personalized learning aimed at individual teaching schemes to meet the needs of all leaners not just the average child.

“Not only will teachers be able to increasingly differentiate instructions, students will have more power over the pace and style of their own education.” He stressed. “In additional to the national agenda and vision, technology savvy teachers, principals, parents and students all have different needs they seek to fulfill in the era of smart education.”

President of Starr Computers, Michael Mohan explained that Samsung provides schools with a full suite of mobile devices suited for educational purposes as well as software solutions and rich content that together create a seamless mobile learning environment.

He said that these innovative and comprehensive tools enable students and teachers to access educational materials from anywhere, as well as interact and collaborate in various ways.

“Instead of combing through piles of paper, teachers can handle class management functions on their mobile devices with Samsung’s east-to-use management tool.” He added.

Alluding to the fact that the home is a simple area where it can all start with a Samsung Smart TV and tablets or compatible devices, Mr. Mohan noted that this technology is an educational solution that provides exceptional fun learning experience need to unleash a child or children potential.

He further explained that the long term benefits of a smart school include educational cost reduction which when compared to printing books and revised edition is less. Books will be converted to digital content that will be available to all. This will promote foreign exchange savings, reduced carbon footprint by using less paper and promote direct access to information rather than sequential.

Emphasizing that students of the current generation learn most through interactivity, Starr President noted that the Samsung Smart School is an amazing example of interactivity within the classroom environment.

It was disclosed that the Samsung Smart School solution enables the instant sharing of screen content from the teachers’ tablet to their students’ personal devices. It gives teachers greater control over their classroom, increasing student engagement and ensuring a more efficient transfer of materials to pupils. This solution facilitates the development of an interactive learning environment by offering dynamic Question & Answer sessions, and helps teachers monitor class attendance and participation, allowing them to work more independently and flexibly.

Teachers will no longer need to stand at the chalkboard, but can move freely around the classroom. The homework will be submitted and corrected through the digital teaching platform. Learning apps and schedules can also be called up on the tablets. This will also change the role of the teacher. While they used to have a monopoly on knowledge, in the future, they will primarily be there to support their students. The skills that students are to acquire will also be different. The focus will no longer be on the rigid testing of rote knowledge, but instead researching on the Internet and creating video content.
