Starr Computer boost GTI facilities with IT equipment

GTIGeorgetown: As part of Starr Computer annual magnanimous donations, the Government Technical Institute (GTI) received a quantity of computer equipments to bolsters students active performance.

The event which was hosted Tuesday at the company’s Brickdam, Georgetown office, General Manager

noted that Starr Computer has been making donations to GTI for a number of years and this was because the company knew the importance of technology in the learning environment.

GTI has not only benefited from the use of the Starr equipment, but, over the years, the students attended seminars and workshops hosted by the company. Other institutions like the University of Guyana, local primary and secondary schools as well as other technical institutes also benefited from similar training and some of them were issued with “Smart Labs”. The Smart Lab is one of Starr’s trademark initiatives geared at reducing the use of energy, the Lab is basically a number of desktops powered by one Central Processing Unit (CPU). The General Manager added that this initiative reduces the amount of energy used by 60 to 70 per cent.

GTI and Starr Computer have seen a number of benefits throughout their years of partnership, and Starr Computers hope to strengthen this relationship in the future. According to Majeed, for the past five years, all technical institutes have been recipients of products from Starr Computers. The Linden, Leonora, Essequibo and Mahaicony Technical Institutes have all received some form of training or equipment from the company. He also noted that the aim was to reduce the use of books and replace them with tablets. The world is becoming more and more technologically advanced and the company believes that educational institutions need to get with the times and invest in their computer labs.
