Soroptimist praised for helping the elderly

Bridgetown.

President of Soroptimist International, Great Britian and Ireland, Pat Black has commended Soroptimist Barbados for setting up and maintaining the Hildegarde Weekes Activity Centre and the Senior Citizens Village at Eden Lodge, St Michael.

Speaking to the  media after touring the two facilities as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Soroptimist International of Barbados, Black said the activities provided for the elderly enable them to look to the future and give life to active ageing.

"Across the world,we are having to look more and more at having to support our ageing population and as the younger population reduces, the load falls on organizations like Soroptimist International to give old people the opportunity to live out their lives with dignity and respect and that is what the Soroptimists in Barbados are doing", Black said.

Soroptimistsand benefactors of the organization's project for the elderly joined several senior citizens who particpate in weekly activities at the Eden Lodge facility for the unveiling of a plaque as part of the 50th anniversary activities.
