Sophia residents to benefit from $300M dental clinic

DSC_0029Georgetown : Residents of ‘B’ Field Sophia were the happy recipients of a $300M dental clinic that was made possible through a public /private partnership. The commissioned ceremony was done last evening.

The residents  are now able to access oral health services in their community due to the efforts of the Rotary Club of Georgetown Central in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and United Insurance which provided the funding the project.

Principal Dental Surgeon, Dr. Shameer Ali expressed his satisfaction that a project of this nature happened through a public/private partnership. He noted that this is something that is lacking in society since everyone looks to the government to address their needs, however the government cannot respond to everyone at the same time.

Chief Executive Officer-United Insurance, Howard Hall acknowledged that the project is a good reflection of, and demonstrates how governments, NGOs and the private sector can work together to maintain and improve the wellbeing of communities, particularly at a time when the economic pressure is forcing organisations to restrict the funding they can make available towards sponsorships. In this regard, the insurance company is pleased to be apart of this effort.

“We see our responsibility as more than just providing quality general insurance service to customers…it is our duty as good corporate citizens to give support to projects that add value to the lives of the people in our communities, and in this case allows them access to facilities and resources which provide dental care,” he said.

Hall applauded the Ministry of Health, the Rotary Club of Georgetown Central and everyone who got involved in the project.

The Rotary Club has been supporting the Health Ministry’s oral health drive through the provision of its dental bus which is outfitted with several chairs.
