Georgetown : The 47 – year old Soesdyke/Linden Highway will be rehabilitated with support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), according to Finance Minister, Winston Jordan.

He spoke of this plan during his presentation of the 2016 National Budget recently.

Whilst the administration awaits the finalisation of the project, critical works will be undertaken to preserve the highway.

Concurrently, maintenance works will be undertaken on the Linden/Kwakwani corridor.

“Over the longer term, we aim to fully pave this road so as to open access to communities in Ituni, Aroaima, Kwakwani, Ebini, Kimbia and other remote areas along the Berbice River,” Minister Jordan explained.

A feasibility study for the reconstruction of the existing bridge which links the communities of Wismar and MacKenzie will also be carried out.

Budget 2016 proposes significant allocations for projects that are aimed at transforming the country’s physical infrastructure.
