Shooting incident reinforces need for specialised units in Police Force- Home Affairs Ministry

Georgetown : The Ministry of Home Affairs said it is deeply saddened over the shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday at Middle and East Streets which resulted in the death of five persons, including two policemen, two civilians and the alleged shooter.

Describing the shooting incident as most unfortunate, the Ministry of Home Affairs in a statement also extended its condolences to the relatives of the policemen who lost their lives in the line of duty and the two civilians who were brutally murdered.

The statement added that this incident reinforces its contention that there is a dire need for well trained Specialised Units in the Guyana Police Force to respond to similar types of events.

According to the statement, the Ministry is now “more than committed to ensure that the SWAT Team is established in the Force within the time frame stipulated”.

The Ministry of Home Affairs commended the efforts that were made by the brave ranks who responded to the incident.
