Several law enforcement agencies sign MOU for joint operations using GDF Floating Patrol Base

Georgetown : A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed among members of the Task Force on Fuel Smuggling and Contraband for the usage of the Guyana Defence Force’s (GDF) Floating Patrol Base that is located in the Pomeroon River.

Those signing the MOU were the GDF, the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) and the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA), through their respective Heads

The MOU details the procedures and guidelines by which these agencies shall use the floating base when conducting joint operations that are consistent with the goals, missions and objectives of all of the agencies of the Task Force on Fuel smuggling and Contraband. The responsibilities for the floating patrol base will be shared equally by the agencies.

Minister of Home Affairs and Chairman of the Task Force Clement Rohee, noted that this MOU strengthens cooperation. He said much has been achieved through the task force and today’s signing was a step to take collaboration further.

Present at the event were the heads of the various agencies who signed the document; GDF; Deputy Chief of Staff, Khemraj Persaud, GPF; Commissioner of Police, Leroy Brumell, CANU; Head of Department, James Singh, GRA; commissioner General, Khurshid Sattaur and the GEA; Dr. Mahender Sharma.

The Minister also highlighted that the GPF will soon be launching a floating base in a similar strategic location.
