St. John’s Antigua: The security officer who allegedly shot his colleague early Wednesday morning has been charged with attempted murder.
The accused is 32-year-old Corwayne Charles Campbell of Martin’s Village.
It is alleged that the Jamaican national left his St John’s workplace during the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday and journeyed to a restaurant and bar in the Dickenson Bay area, where the shooting victim, Fabian McDonald, works.
While there, a police press statement said, the two men reportedly argued. As McDonald was reportedly walking away from his colleague, he reportedly heard an explosion and shortly afterwards realised he had been shot.
McDonald, who resides at Martin’s Village, is said to be in stable condition at Mount St John’s Medical Centre.
The police noted he had surgery and the injury is not life-threatening.
Campbell will be taken to a magistrate next week to have his committal date set. The short form committal process has long replaced preliminary inquiries and is used to determine whether the prosecution has shown that a prima facie (at first glance) case exists against the accused.
If the prosecution succeeds in meeting the standard, the case would proceed to the High Court for trial before a judge and jury.
