Second sextuplet baby dies

Port of Spain; The last to be born among Trinidad and Tobago's first set of sextuplets have died. Baby Paeton Christopher Cummings, a boy, died after 44 days from what was said to be lung failure otherwise known as septic. His  brother Kaelon Nasir, died after 26 days from the same complication.

Three of the six babies were discharged, but Paeton and one of his sisters never left the hospital. Reports are that little baby Persia, a girl,  who is still at hospital is not doing so well either.

The parents of the sextuplets are traumatized as they have already lost two of their six babies who were delivered by caesarian section on March 4. They were planning to go to the hospital when they got the news their second son died of an infection. Up until he died the family was of the impression the babies were ok.

A source said up until Monday the baby boy was doing fine but his condition took a turn on Tuesday when he started to deteriorate. The source said his parents were called and told he was not doing very well until yesterday when his lungs collapsed. He was placed back on the ventilator and treated with immunoglobulin along with the appropriate antibiotics and adrenaline to fight the infection.

Offering condolences on behalf of the women's hospital Dr. Shehenaz Mohammed said the entire staff is deeply saddened by the entire situation, as they did everything possible to save his life, he however succumbed and died at the Mt Hope Women's Hospital at 5 pm.
