Sarwan issue in Butts’ hands

Bridgetown.

It is up to chairman of the West Indies selectors Clyde Butts to decide when  Ramnaresh Sarwan will return to the West Indies team.

President of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Dr Jullian Hunte, told a media conference at Kensington Oval yesterday that Sarwan had reached out to him with a desire to play for the West Indies again but the matter was out of his control, because  Butts was charged with responsibility.

"In matters of this kind, the president and other members of the board defer to the chairman of selectors. In fact he wrote to me and called me on the phone, and I have said to him in no uncertain terms on each occasion that he needs to speak with the chairman of selectors who is the person to guide him in terms of whatever problems he has", Hunte said.

"I know that the chairman of selectors did speak with Sarwan and got his letter which  was circulated among the other selectors. I hope that this matter will soon be resolved", Hunte added.

Sarwan,a veteran of 87 tests last played for the West Indies in 2011 in successive home series against India and Pakistan.

His fitness was questioned by the selection panel and members of the coaching staff, leading Sarwan to  publicly  state he would not make himself available for selection to the West Indies team.

He later signed a contract with English country Leicestershire. The stylish right handed batsman has since recanted and stated  in several press interviews that his contractual obligations with Leicestershire would not prevent him from playing for the West Indies.
