West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels has attributed his recent success to legendary West Indian cricketer Sir Garry Sobers.

Speaking to Trakker News at the launch of the Cairbbean Premier League at the Sandy Lane Country Club earlier this week, Samuels said he has been receiving tips on batting and bowling.

"Each time I have the opportunity, I seeks Sir Garry advise on batting and bowling and he has been giving me advise on how to be a better cricketer. I have repeatedly ask him, the screct of his success and each time his reply was by sticking to the basis. I have been doing that and my game has been improving", Samuels said.

The Jamaican who had a prolific 2012 and played a match winning knock for the West Indies in the finals of ICC World T20 against Sri Lanka last year, has been out of action since being struck in the right eye by a ball from Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga while batting in the Big Bash in Australia  late last year, said his vision had not been affected by the blow.

"There are not problems and I thank God there are no after effects. I did not have to do surgery or anything like that", Samuels said.

"I don't have any problems batting-wise. I have been doing some practising but I am going to give myself a longer time before I start playing cricket', says Samuels.

"I am defenitely looking forward to the Zimbabwe series, so I will give it another few weeks and see how it goes", he added.
