arrest2Georgetown: Oneka Tomika Neils, 20, of Lot 612 Half Mile Wismar Linden is accused of attempting to ship a box containing 1.100 kilograms of cocaine to Canada via the Guyana Post office Corporation (GPOC) on August 9, 2013.

She was charged for the offence of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, and is scheduled to commence on September, 12, 2013. The new date was provided by Georgetown Magistrate Judy Latchman.

Neils who was a sales representative denied the allegations at the initial hearing. She told the court that she had no knowledge of the contents of the box.   She claimed that it was given to her by a male companion to post.

Customs Anti Narcotic Unit CANU, Prosecutor Oswald Massiah, told the court that the defendant and a male companion had travelled from her hometown in Linden to post the box containing food items.

Massiah told the court that during the processing of the package for shipment CANU officers attached to GPOC’s main office were asked to check the contents, which led to the discovery of cocaine concealed in chunks packaged in transparent plastic bags.
