download (3)Georgetown : Residents of Central Rupununi and surrounding villages will soon benefit from the operational upgrades which the Lethem Power Company will undergo before the end of the year.

The current administration, in its 2015 Budget, has allocated $35.5M for necessary upgrades to be made to the power company.

In furtherance of the intention, the Ministry of Public Infrastructure began inviting bids for the supply of the necessary line hardware which will be used by the company.  Bid applications close on November 3, at 9:00hrs, and the bid documents will be opened by the Tender Board, in the presence of all bidders and representatives who wish to attend.

The allocation of $35.5M will be spent to extend the electricity distribution system at Culvert city, to connect new power stations to existing grids, and to purchase a vehicle and motorcycles to boost institutional capacity. Additionally, monies will be spent to provide poles, cables, transformers, tools and safety gear.

The aim of the project is to improve operational efficiency, electricity distribution and transportation in the Region Nine area.

Just recently, the Ministry held a two-week workshop with electricity stakeholders, as a new National Electricity Code was adopted.
