Relief for Tobagonians affected by rainfall

Tobago: The Ministry of Tobago Development is promising relief to dozens of residents on the island affected by torrential rainfall over the last couple days.

The Ministry says that many Tobagonians have been impacted by the inclement weather Tobago has been experiencing these past few weeks. In particular Iola Julien and Leonard Bobb of John Dial are thanking all those who came to their aid when their roof blew off their home in the wee hours of the morning on Wednesday 22nd June, 2011.

Minister Vernella Alleyne-Toppin says she is working closely with the Minister in the Ministry of National Security, Subhas Panday to mobilized various human and physical resources as needed in an effort to alleviate the damage resulting from the severe weather. Minister of National Security, Brigadier John Sandy, has also made available the Engineering Corps of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, to undertake necessary emergency relief works in Tobago as part of the disaster preparedness and relief efforts of the Ministry of National Security.

The Meteorological Office has warned that Trinidad and Tobago will experience a very active wet season this year and hasurged that all citizens take the usual precautionary measures to mitigate the damage that could occur should severe weather arise.

The Minister says her Ministry has an organised response team which is working in collaboration with all state agencies to effect preventative and relief measures.
