Rehabilitation works at Regent Street Sewer Pump Station completed

GWI 2Georgetown:Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), is advising the public that the junction at Regent and Camp Streets has been re-opened to traffic following the completion of repairs to the sewer pump station which serves the area.  According to Senior Project Engineer (GWI) Arshad Yacoub road repair works are still on-going but communicators can safely utilize the road. ‘Our contractors are still working to reinstate the road and this will be completed within two weeks,’ stated the GWI Senior Engineer, ‘however we have put measures in place to ensure that vehicles and pedestrians can resume using the roadway in a safe manner’.

The rehabilitation works involved the complete rehabilitation of the Regent Street Sewer Pump Station which included the installation of new pumps, 30KVA transformers, electrical and control panels.  The most difficult aspect of the rehabilitation works was the installation of the new pump which operates at 35 liters per second and required the breaking and excavation of the roadway and the top slab.

All aspects of the rehabilitation works were successfully executed; the works form part of the Government of Guyana (GOG) and Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) funded US$10 Million Georgetown Sanitation Improvement Programme (GSIP).  The programme aims to rehabilitate all 24 sewer pump stations in Georgetown.

Following the completion of this aspect of the programme, works commenced on Monday, September 23 for laying HDPE sewer pipes along Sussex Street going west to the Sussex and Charles Street Junction.
