Region mulls distributing condoms in schools

A resort to the distribution of condoms in High Schools is being mulled across the Region, even if at this point it is just tangential.

This is at least according to Guyana’s Minister of Culture Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony, who recently chaired the CARICOM’s Council for Human and Social Development (COSHODs) Special Meeting held in Guyana.

He reported that this move is being mulled as a result of the worrying new trend in the region, inclusive of Guyana when it comes to the HIV/AIDS Epidemic.

According to Dr Anthony, the COSHOD forum held at the Princess International Hotel, benefitted from presentations from UNAIDS as well as the CARICOM Health Desk, and it was revealed that there is a worryingly high escalating trend of cases of infections in the 15 to 19 age category.
