Redjet says age of aircraft not responsible for its problems

Port-of-Spain: Low cost regional carrier Redjet is dismissing reports that the age of the aircraft was responsible for a malfunctioned hydraulic system. The airline says operations have resumed after it was forced to cancel all flights due to the problem, but it says the airline continues to operate profitably despite the setback.

One month after getting the green light to fly from Port-of-Spain and other Caribbean countries, Redjet was faced with hydraulic problems on one of its aged aircraft, which forced the airline to ground the plane and cancel flights across its network.

Hopwever, days after the embarassing situation Redjet has explained that the problems were simply mechanical and age of the aircraft did not play any part in the malfunction.

Prior to being put into operation, the airline's Chief Operating Officer Kevin Dudley said both aircraft underwent strict maintenance and both were subsequently granted expert certification from the faa before arriving in the Caribbean.

Redjet now says the airline has been repaired and is back in service but the low cost carrier has been forced to admit that it fell down in its communication with its passengers and this compounded the problem.

Redjet admits that bookings have declined significantly but the airline remains optimistic that consumer confidence will return. The airline is hoping to see an increase in ticket sales within the coming months and says profitability was not impacted by the recent chaos.
