Dominica : Two men who were slapped with drug charges by the police received bail in the whopping sum of $1-million when they appeared in a Roseau court on Monday.
Jones “Jeff” St. Jean of Portsmouth and Clevo Gabriel of Highland, Grand Bay are facing charges of possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to supply, importation of cocaine and conspiracy to import cocaine.
They have both pleaded not guilty to to the charges.
The two were arrested in a recent series of successful anti-drug operations by the police which have netted huge amounts of the illegal substance.
Albert Gabriel, Courtney Walsh and Kelvin Gabriel stood as Gabriel’s bail surety and Junnie St. Jean stood as surety for Jones St Jean.
As condition of bail the men are to surrender all travel documents to the authorities. Additionally Gabriel must report to the Grand Bay Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm while St. Jean must report to the Portsmouth Police Station at the same days and time.
The two were arrested after 100,000 gram of cocaine were found by members of the the Coast Guard, Customs and Drug Squad personnel of the Marine Unit who intercepted an open keel boat at 10:30 pm on Thursday, August 9 off the coast of Roseau.
The boat, named “Just In Time”, was powered by two 200 HP engines.
The cocaine is worth $2.6-million, according to the police.
