Rape victim drinks poison, assailant on the run

Georgetown: A teenage rape victim from Port Kaituma, Region One has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after drinking a poisonous liquid.

The 17-year-old girl who was raped about one week ago revealed her traumatic experience to her parents; however, this was reported to the police only after the young lady injected herself and consumed an a toxic substance.

Reports disclose the teen who was attending nursing classes drank the poison Tuesday last and did not tell anyone. However, it was only after her sudden change in her behaviour combined with a deteriorating physical appearance then she revealed what she did.  Subsequently, she was rushed to the Port Kaituma Hospital and was subsequently transferred to GPHC, where she was admitted. Police are investigating, while the assailant has eluded capture.
