Radio Licence recipient under fire for unpaid rent

Georgetown: "Financially sound," was one of the main criteria sounded by Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon, as part of the considerations to receive a radio licence locally, but at least one of the recipients is under fire for his financial woes.

Maxwell Thom, the owner of Wireless Connections, is one of the recipients of a radio licence but he is also slated to appear in court tomorrow in relation to millions owed in unpaid rent.

This publication understands Thom owes rent dating back to September of last year for occupation of a property East of Bourda Market on Regent Street which houses one of the Wireless Connections branches.

According to reports the proprietors of the property have increased the rent to $1.5M a month following a fire that had destroyed the property but Thom has reportedly objected to the increase and the matter has since engaged the attention of the courts.

Dr. Roger Luncheon is quoted from  a recent press briefing as saying that not any ‘lagoo baboo’ could be granted the facility, adding that such a recipient must be fit, proper and have  financial means.
