Public Security Minister and British High Commissioner discuss collaboration in several areas

ConfabGeorgetown: Vice President and Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan along with representatives of the Ministry of Public Security held bilateral discussions with Mr. Greg Quinn, British High Commissioner to Guyana recently at the Ministry’s Secretariat, Brickdam.

 Some of the issues raised at the meeting by Minister include the provision of training for members of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) in intelligence gathering in support of the fight against crime and drug trafficking; strengthening the marine capability of the GPF to curb piracy and smuggling, the transformation of the Force into an organisation that is more acceptable to the public, and addressing youth and gender based violence, and focusing on Youths at Risk.

Mr Quinn indicated the support of his Government in the strengthening of the capacity of the law enforcement agencies of this country.  He offered the full cooperation of his Ministry with the British High Commission to support the local law enforcement agencies to make them more effective and responsive to the needs of society.
