PSC meets with opposition Leader on a range of issues

download (3)Georgetown : The Private Sector Commission (PSC) held a meeting with Opposition leader Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo, accompanied by Ms Gail Teixeira, Chief Party Whip and Mr Irfan Ali MP. 

The meeting which deemed fruitful by the PSC and where the Leader of the Opposition spoke on a wide range of topics starting with Hydroelectricity, in particular, Amaila Falls.  There were also extensive discussions on the world economic situation and the state of the Guyanese economy and such issues as Sugar, Rice, Bauxite and other major sectors of the economy. 

The PSC also engaged Mr. Jagdeo on issues of the upcoming Local Government Elections and an assessment of the preparations by GECOM and, in particular, Education as the Local Government Elections arelikely to be even more complex, on which Ms Gail Teixeira spoke.

  Mr Irfan  Ali spoke on the issue of Housing.

The PSC also enquired from Mr Jagdeo on his willingness to participate in the National Economic Forum and to provide any assistance that he and the Party would be willing to give for this National Programme.  Further, Mr. Jagdeo indicated that he wouldbe willing to support the Government on any benefits to the Guyanese people and he was at all times prepared to support the Government in this important thrust but is indisposed to cutting Budgets or benefits. Indeed he advocated for greater benefits as it was in the national interest for this to take place.  Finally, was the issue of collaboration with the Government, both by the Opposition and the PSC.
