Private Sector express concerns about new labour laws

Bridgetown.

Members of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI)  expressed concerns that the Holiday With Pay Amendment Bill 2012 could destabilize their businesses during an economic downturn.

Among the concerns of the BCCI  are that the proposed changes would have the effect of increasing holiday cost for utility companies by 30 to 50 percent and  for manufacturing between 18 and 68 percent.

According to the president of the BCCI Lalu Vaswani, the level of the increases are unrealistic and unsustainable.

He stated that the Minister of Labour Esther Byer – Suckoo had agreed to delay taking the bill to Parliament in order to review and resolve the concerns of the Privat Sector.
