Prisoner to appear in court today found dead in lock ups

 

Georgetown : Tiffon Peters, 22 years, of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, who was in police custody at the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost last night, was found hanging in the lock-ups from his shirt which he had stripped into a cloth-rope and tied to the metal grill work of the lock-ups.

 

According to a police report Tiffon Peters was in the lock-ups with another prisoner who was awakened by gasping sounds and alerted the police after seeing him hanging. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

 

Tiffon Peters had been taken into custody at about 2:30pm Wednesday January 21, 2015, following investigations into a report of simple larceny of $25,000.00 committed on Dhanwattie Singh of Houston, East Bank Demerara, which had occurred at Vlissengen Road and Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, yesterday. He had been charged for court today.

 

The Police Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting investigations into the incident.
