Prime Minister Nagamootoo describes Guyana Times relentless campaign against him as wicked and derogatory

Moses-Nagamootoo

Georgetown : Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo has described as “calculatedly wicked, false and mischievous” a front page article in the Guyana Times, appearing under the caption: “US media censorship observation – PM claims that US wants to damage image of Coalition Govt”.

The article was published in today’s edition of the Guyana Times in what the Prime Minister said is “the latest in an almost relentless, daily personal attack” on the Prime Minister since the Coalition Government took office in May 2015.

The Guyana Times article was ostensibly in response to a statement issued by the Department of Public Information (DPI) which denied claims made by two Guyanese commentators that the Guyana Chronicle newspaper was practicing censorship by the state.

The DPI’s release was not in response to any ‘report’ emanating from the United States. The Guyana Times admitted this by stating that DPI made no reference to the ‘Report’.

It appears that the ‘Report’ that the Guyana Times referred to is the 2015 US State Department’s Country Report on Human Rights Practices.

In the April 9th edition of his Hinds’ Sight column in the Guyana Chronicle, Dr. David Hinds wrote: The Chronicle has historically been an instrument of dictatorship, and we cannot continue like this. This present Government came to power as a change agent, and the state-owned media must reflect that promise. Censorship must be eradicated.”

In his April 17th edition of his self-titled column, Freddie Kissoon wrote: What was wrong with Hinds’ two columns to warrant such censorship a mere eleven months after the Guyanese people voted to clean up the Chronicle?… Dr. Hinds was censored…”

Prime Minister Nagamootoo observed that, “the Guyana Times has embarked on an ad hominem, oftentimes vulgar, demeaning, derogatory and racist campaign” against him as a person and in his capacity as Prime Minister of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

The Prime Minister has urged that the DPI not waste any time in answering both the Guyana Times and its political handlers given that he views these as gimmickry and distraction. However DPI will not allow the deliberate mischief of the Guyana Times which has degenerated to a propaganda rag to go unanswered.

The Prime Minister noted too that Guyana Times, is also trying desperately to undo the malicious attacks leveled by the Jagdeo clique against the Government of the United States and other major Western democracies. The clique has invariably accused the US of helping to oust the PPP after 23 years of unbroken power.

The clique has further accused the Western powers with “meddling” and had instigated and launched an unprecedented vulgar attack against a former US Ambassador during his tenure in Guyana.
