Prime Minister express concerns over guns

Bridgetown.

Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart says the Government is concerns about the number of guns in the hands of young people.

"I have noted the spike, and we are keeping the matter undereview. When the National Security Council meets very shortly, we will be devoting special attention to the issue because we cannot allow it to get out of hand", says Stuart.

The  Prime Minister said he had discussed the issue with Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite:" It is a matter of concern to us for some time now, the ease with which our young men and women able to access firearms and we know the source market for firearms in this hemisphere is the United States.

He stated  that Barbados was used as a transhipment point for the smuggling of guns and ammunition from the United States and the topic had been discussed with US Attorney General Eric Holder and other officials.
