Presidential driver remanded on ammo, illegal firearm charge

handcuffs1Georgetown- Kenard Jubar, a driver attached to the Office of the President, was Thursday remanded to prison on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

He appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. The court heard that on September 3 at John Street, Brickdam, Georgetown, the defendant who resides at 27 Norton Street, Georgetown, had in his possession, four live rounds and one 9mm Pistol without being the holder of a valid licence. The accused pleaded not guilty.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru objected to bail. Mangru said that on the day in question, police were on mobile patrol when they noticed the defendant riding a motorcycle (CG 8212) without a helmet. He was subsequently stopped and a search was conducted where the discovery was then made.
