President Ramotar meets Cuban Leader Raul Castro

Bilateral relations and cooperation and other issues at the regional and multilateral levels were discussed when Guyana’s Head of State Donald Ramotar met Cuban President Raul Castro on October 18, Cuba’s state news agency Prensa Latina reported.

Guyana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guyana, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Cuban Vice President Esteban Lazo and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez were also in the meeting.Raul Castro was designated President of the Council of State in a temporary transfer of power on July 2006 after his brother Fidel Castro, former President of Cuba took ill. He served as Minister of the Armed Forces from 1959 to 2008 and has been holding the post as the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba since 2011.

On Thursday, President Ramotar paid tribute to Jose Marti, a National Hero on the island, laying a wreath at the Memorial site during a ceremony. He was accompanied on a museum tour located in the Plaza of the Revolution.

Upon his arrival the Guyanese Head of State met Guyanese medical students during a visit to the Latin American School of Medicine.
