President pledges support to City Hall

President David Granger 2Georgetown: While calling for unity at City Hall, President David Granger Monday pledged his government’s support to the Georgetown Municipality.

The Head of State also made several proposals to the council, including the establishment of a National Capital Planning Commission which would see a structured approach being utilized for the development of the capital city.

The President addressed the councillors at City Hall’s horse-shoe table, the first such address by a Guyanese leader in over 20 years.

During his address he called on the councillors to reach out to their respective constituencies, as he noted that each councilor represents approximately 28,000 citizens within the capital city of Georgetown.

“And you have to listen to them,” the President said, as he called on the councillors to listen to the concerns of the citizens.

He congratulated the council on its ongoing move to transform the capital city to its “Garden City” title. To this end, he noted that Central government will remain committed in assisting the council in its mandate as he reiterated his call for the councillors to work together in the interest of the citizenry.

Mayor Patricia –Chase Green welcomed the proposals of the President and she assured that the Georgetown Municipality will work to ensure that one can “expect no less than the best from the city.”
