President pleased with CPL atmosphere

donaldGeorgetown: President Donald Ramotar last evening batted the first ball to officially open the Limacol Caribbean Premier League (CPL) game between Guyana’s Amazon Warriors and the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

The Guyanese Head of State expressed his satisfaction at the large turnout and the tremendous atmosphere that pervaded.

The Warriors took the batting crease first and made an impressive 155 runs. Their bowling and fielding were just as impressive. They managed to restrict the Trinidadian team to a mere 136-9; much to the delight of the packed stadium of supporters.

The second match will be held on August 2, when the Amazon Warriors will face the Jamaica Tallawahs. On August 4, patrons will witness a double-header game; first the Antigua Hawksbills vs. Jamaica Tallawahs and subsequently, the Warriors vs. St Lucia Zouks.

The CPL is a 20/20 cricket tournament that is expected to be held annually in the Caribbean by the West Indies Cricket Board. It was created earlier this year to replace the Caribbean 20/20 tournament.

The New GPC/Limacol, a local household name, is the owner of the CPL franchise in Guyana, which is seen as a signature accomplishment for local cricket and the country as a whole.
