Georgetown- A huge crowd gathered today at the official start of the 11th Parliament, as members of the Apnu/Afc coalition Government were sworn in just about two hours ago.Noticeably absent was the opposition PPP who continue their protest in front of the Guyana Elections Commission, calling for the removal of the chairman Dr. Steve Surujballi. There was no attempts made to move the protest action to the Parliament buildings since many feared it would have erupted into confusion and chaos with scores of coalition supporters present.

The Police band marched from Brickdam to the Parliament buildings for the ceremonial inspection of the guard of honour by President David Granger whose speech set the tone for the beginning of the National Assembly. Many in the diplomatic core and even supporters of the opposition PPP continue to call for good sense to prevail and for them to take up their seats in the national assembly in the interest of their support base and nation building.
