PPP calls the Social Cohesion work by Government a “Window Dressing”

Georgetown : The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) in a statements says the party has noted with disgust, the hullabaloo being created by the David Granger Administration with regard to Social Cohesion, when in fact these efforts are merely window dressing.
Social cohesion cannot be achieved without social inclusion and consequently the demonstrated actions of the Government, including the mass witch-hunting of professionals runs counter to the very core of social cohesion.
The party claims that the Granger Administration, has no moral authority to speak on Social Cohesion nor to organize a forum to address the subject.
The PPP statement went on to say “The PNC/APNU/AFC has always promoted division and social discohesion in Guyana.
The APNU+AFC’s anti-cohesive actions in recent months speak for themselves;

1. The APNU+AFC cheated the PPP/C and the people of Guyana when, with the help of GECOM, they rigged the May 11 General and Regional Elections, thus alienating more than 50% of the voting population.

2. The APNU+AFC on its assumption to office, embarked on mass “Ethno Political Discrimination” in the public sector, by embarking on the mass dismissal of Indo-Guyanese professionals aligned to the PPP.

3. The APNU+AFC Government arbitrarily terminated the employment almost 2,000 young Amerindian Community Support Officers without giving any proper explanation.

4. The APNU+AFC has in its ranks persons who promote openly, a racist ideology.

5. The APNU+AFC Government endorsed adiscriminatory electricity subsidy for one segment of the Guyanese society over another.

6. The APNU+AFC Government continues to make important national decisions without consulting with the relevant sections of the Guyanese society.

7. The APNU’s blatant usurpation of the functions of the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC), a constitutional Body established to deal with issues of Social Cohesion.

The PPP setting the record straight says while in Government continuously conducted national consultations on key issues relative to social cohesion
The PPP remains committed to a socially cohesive society, but cannot endorse the ongoing charade being put on by the APNU+AFC in the name of Social Cohesion, while its members and supporters continue to be witch hunted out of their jobs and openly discriminated against.
