PPP calls for public disclosure on “matters of importance”

PPPGeorgetown: The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is calling for full public disclosure by the David Granger Administration on all matters of importance to the people of Guyana.

According to the party in a public missive:  “The PPP has noted the secrecy with which the Granger Administration has been operating. The people of Guyana deserve to know the circumstances surrounding the removal of the Exxon Mobil rig from the Stabroek Block as well as the terms and conditions of the cooperation agreement signed between Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago, during Mr Granger’s recent visit to the twin island Republic. The people of Guyana is still to be told of the outcome of Mr. Granger’s meeting with US Department of State officials as well as the position adopted by Guyana at the meeting at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and the Mercosul Summit in Brazil, attended by President Granger.

These are the questions the President needs answer, Guyanese want to know what these trips are about and whether their outcomes will impact the Guyanese people’s welfare to bring about the much touted “good life” by the Granger Administration.”

“Granger has failed miserably at informing the people of this country on what exactly his government is doing to stimulate investment and spur growth of the Guyanese economy, which has been on the decline. Mr Granger attended the 36th CARICOM Heads of Government Conference  in Barbados from July 2-5, his first such conference as the Nation’s Head of State and more than one month later, he is still to report to this nation what came out of his engagements at the conference and if there were any bilateral meetings  with his regional counterparts.

The PPP can proudly say that all of its Presidents since 1992, never failed to update this Nation on any major overseas engagement aimed at advancing the interests of the people of this country.

Mr. Granger was sworn in as President on May 14, 2015, it is now a few days shy of three months and not once has he invited the full press to talk about what is taking place in our country and its external relations. It is only ethical and a matter of courtesy that Granger as the Nation’s Head of State inform the people of Guyana about his forays abroad.”
