Port-of-Spain: Police are investigating a number of serious crimes including the shooting of retired police officer Vishin Jairam.
Reports are that shortly after 7am a police officer and a female companion, were proceeding south along the El Socorro Main Road when his vehcle was stopped by persons at a wedding reception who had spilled into the street.
There was an exchange of words and one of the party members grabbed apparently a bottle and menacingly started coming towards the passenger side, when the ex-officer pulled out his fireram and shot Jairam once in his chest.
The injured man remains warded at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital in a critical condition.
Meanwhile police are awaiting forensic reports tomorrow to determine cause of death, age and etchnicity of the decomposed body of a man found in a shallow grave at Mitigual Road, San Juan this evening by a passerby.
