Police Refute J’Ouvert Gunshot Injury Story

Police officials say reports that a woman was shot in the hand earlier today are false.

Late this morning, a rumor began circulating that while driving along the Bay Road as the J’Ouvert revelry was winding down, a woman was shot in her hand.

“There was no shooting incident,” Commissioner of Police CG Walwyn told The Observer.

According to the CoP, the woman had actually been hit by a rock that had been hurled by someone within a group of young men.

“Some guys were throwing stones and one entered the window of her vehicle, hit her in the hand and shattered the opposite window,” he explained.

The CoP informed that members of the Criminal Investigation Department had investigated and found the rock that had penetrated the woman’s hand. She was taken to the hospital where X-rays confirmed the wound had not been made from a bullet.

The Commissioner also said eyewitnesses corroborated that the young men were indeed pelting stones, and there had been no shooting.
