Police Force Fallen Heroes Foundation donates to family welfare

Georgetown: The Guyana Police Force Fallen Heroes Foundation Inc. is faithful in its promise to lend support to families of Police Men and Women who were killed in the line of duty. Recently, the Foundation presented eight families with cheques.  Representing the families were wives of the fallen heroes, who felt greatly appreciated by the Force for the initiative and its effect in their lives for the last two years. The cheques were awarded to supplement the children’s education and welfare. Chairman of the Foundation, Reverend Dr. Murtland Raphael Massiah commended the Commissioner of Police Mr. Seelall Persaud D.S.M for his dedication to fulfilling a promise made to those families. He said they were happy to present the nine families with their cheques and will meet again on May 25th to provide additional aid.  Vice President of the Fallen Heroes Foundation Dr. Winston McGowan said it is heart pleasing when you see the difference that the foundation has made in the lives of the families of our Fallen Heroes. “When a husband dies, you know the family has a huge gap that is sometimes impossible to full. What we are doing is trying to, through the foundation, trying to provide for the education in particular but the general welfare of the children under eighteen, for lessons, school, and transportation. We have committed ourselves to doing it once every term and it’s very much appreciated, its substantial help.’’ When asked if the assistance was only available to lesser fortunate families of our Fallen Heroes Dr. McGowan replied that it is “for ranks who would have died in the line of duty.’’ It is in my estimation an expression of the Administration’s dedication to the very core of its mandate ‘’Service and Protection but specifically to stand with those families in their time of need as they seek to co-exist after the death of their Heroes i.e. those Fathers and Husbands whose lives were lost in the line of duty is the very definition of service. Since its launch in November 05, 2015, the Foundation has received strong support from members of the business community and the wider Guyanese community.

The foundation has also received praise and monetary assistance from The Government of Guyana. Now almost three years later the Fallen Heroes Foundation Inc. remains committed to making positive changes in the lives of others. In December 2016 nine recipients received over $400,000 in funds. Since then more than 25 children have benefited from the work of the foundation. Members of the Foundation are: Chairman; Reverend Dr.Murtland Raphael Massiah; Vice Chairman; Dr. Vincent Mc Gowan; Secretary; Reverend Winston Assanah; Treasurer; Mr. Mohamed Arafat Qualander; Pastor Derych Anderson; Pastor Victor Grimmond and Pastor Patrick Dolichand who is the GPF Chaplain.
