Georgetown : Government through the Ministry of Home Affairs handed over the keys to a new fleet of vehicles and motorcycles at a time when the Force celebrates its 175th anniversary.

The fleet which includes 13, 4x4s, 10 motor cars, 7 motor cycles, a 26 seater bus, a troop carrier and one short base truck. The keys were presented to the force by Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee during a handing over ceremony at the Tactical Services Unit, Eve Leary.

While urging proper usage and maintenance of the vehicles and cycles, Minister Rohee noted that this event was a historic one, as the force is currently celebrating its anniversary.

“I believe that these vehicles added to the set that was handed over, will be used to serve and protect the people as we adhere to the motto of the force… the people have every right to be knowledgeable of what is handed over to the police and what it has been used for,” Minister Rohee stated.

He said that it is in the people’s interest to know that the resources poured into the force are used in their (the people’s) best interest, because the people look with great expectations to be provided with the best service.

The force is part of the citizenry of this country, which is vested with the authority to fulfill their responsibility, and must at all times perform at the highest level or at a great degree with respect, understanding  and tolerance for the people.

Minister Rohee emphasised that even as Government continues to provide the means of land and water transport, it will also be working in close collaboration with the force to ensure the country and its people are served and protected to the highest possible level.

Transportation is an important part of the force’s operations. In this regard, in keeping with the implementation of the Police Strategic plan, the Strategic Management Department (SMD) recently submitted a proposal for a vehicle maintenance strategy. This proposal is currently being processed and will allow for better maintenance of the vehicles.

Commissioner of Police (Ag), Seelall Persaud said that the vehicles represent a very major part of the force’s operation; it lends to the patrol system, response time and threats which concern the people and the overall enhancement of state security.
