East Coast Demerara : Constable Samuel Mootoo is listed in a stable condition at a private hospital, while Narmindra Ramtydeo has been admitted to the Georgetown Hospital where he is under guard.
A Police Sergeant, who was armed with a service firearm, and Constable Samuel Mootoo were travelling along the roadway in a motor vehicle last night at Belvedere, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara , when they observed another motor vehicle in a ditch off the roadway.
The ranks stopped and were making checks to ascertain if anyone may be in the vehicle and in need of assistance when Narmindra Ramtydeo emerged from a nearby yard and discharged rounds at the two police ranks with an unlicensed Colt 9mm. pistol, hitting Constable Mootoo to his right wrist.
The Police Sergeant responded and returned fire hitting Narmindra Ramtydeo to his neck, chest, right shoulder, and right arm.
The unlicensed firearm has been recovered by the police as the investigations continue.
