PNCR leader David Granger visits Linden shooting victims

Georgetown : Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform Brigadier David Granger visited two men who were wounded on July 18th when members of the Guyana Police Force opened fire on peaceful protestors at Linden.

Dexter Scotland and Michael Roberts are patients at the Georgetown Hospital Corporation where they are recovering from their wounds. The party leader told the men that his visit was to enquire into their medical condition and welfare. He also wanted to reassure them that the PNCR and A Partnership for National Unity would continue to work towards ensuring that those responsible for the crime were brought to justice.

Michael Roberts was shot in the jaw and Dexter Scotland was shot in the face and still has several bullet fragments in his jaw and neck. Both spent most of the visit recounting the events of July18th with Brigadier Granger and painted very vivid pictures of the sequence of events that occurred that day.

Michael Roberts said that the atmosphere where he was akin to a “fun day.” People were eating and listening to music but there was no disorder. Both men positively identified the shooters as “Black clothes” police officers who were operating from the Mackenzie side of the Demerara river.

Brigadier Granger told both men that he was relieved that their condition was improving. He and promised them that no stone would be left unturned in the quest to bring the guilty to justice. The two men were also presented with care packages.
