Berbice: Saheed Hamid, called “Uncle Tulu” was shot dead Sunday afternoon outside his Maida farm, Corentyne, Berbice home under strange circumstance.
The 76-year-old was shot in the chest after exiting the back door of his latrine; he succumbed before being transported to the hospital.
Relatives suggested that he may have unintentionally surprised a group of bandits who were lurking in the area. The victim and his wife, Nazmoon, lived alone.
The woman said that she heard an explosion, but she assumed that someone had shattered a bulb. However, while going downstairs to check on her husband she noticed him lying on the ground outside of the door so she went to him and ask "wa dem do dem beat yo".
The woman related that her husband tired crawling back into the house but he did not make it he fell back to the ground and appeared dead.
Mrs. Hamid amidst tears further related that she began shaking her husband hoping to get him to respond but then she noticed that blood was gushing out from a wound he had on his chest.
“I put meh finger over the hole to try to stop the bleeding and I start screaming fuh help "dem shoot you, why dem nah bin shoot me to.” Police are investigating.
