Passport forgery charge dismissed against drug baron’s reputed wife

Georgetown: Anjanie Boodnarine, the reputed wife of self-confessed and convicted drug lord, Barry Dataram had passport forgery charges against her dismissed Monday morning at the Georgetown Magistrate Court.

Magistrate Renita Singh ruled that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence against Boodnarine in the charge of conspiring with one or more persons to forge a Guyana passport.

The magistrate said she found it strange that the police further failed to institute a charge of uttering a false document to immigration officials, which was not the charge brought by the prosecution.

It was alleged that Boodnarine conspired with others at Camp Street (the location of the Central Passport and Immigration Office) with intent to defraud forged passports numbered RO341097 (Boodnarine’s) and RO376916 (Dataram’s), purporting to show that they had been stamped at the Central Immigration and Passport Office.

The original holders of the passports are males although one was forged to reflect that it was issued to Christine Persaud. The other was issued to David Persaud.

Boodnarine still has another upcoming matter before city magistrate Leron Daly. Only recently, Boodnarine had a matter of illegal ammunition possession, when Datatram, in court, took full responsibility for ammo find, after police raided their Diamond Housing Scheme home. Boodnarine was acquitted.

The couple caught on October 14, 2016 at Latour, southern Paramaribo, Suriname and transferred to Guyana the following day.
