Passengers at CJIA are treated in traditional African style

 

Timehri : Passengers arriving at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) were given a preview of Emancipation celebrations as Guyana commemorates the 178th anniversary of emancipation of Africans today.   The meet and greet exercise hosted by the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) in collaboration with CJIA’s management, treated passengers to drumming and traditional African foods as they made their way into the arrival terminal.                                                                    
Passengers were also treated to several blends of beverages that were distributed by the Demerara Distillers Limited.                                                                                                                                  GTA’s Director Indranauth Haralsingh said that while the celebration commemorates the emancipation of Africans, it is embraced by all Guyanese.   “The meet and greet exercise has been existence for over seven years now and will continue …celebrating the various cultures, traditions and historic events of Guyanese,” Haralsingh said. 

During his interaction with passengers, he urged them to, during their stay; evaluate the country’s growth and development for themselves.
 “The Ministry of Tourism and the Guyana Tourism Authority would like to welcome all the passengers arriving in Guyana, whether it is Guyanese or tourists coming here to spend time with their families and friends especially for Emancipation celebrations,” Haralsingh said.
