Parvati-Persaud-Edwards sacked over racist editorial

Parvati Persaud-Edwards has been relieved of her duties at the Guyana Chronicle over the recent editorial that sparked controversy for its alleged racist content.

Caribbean Trakker has learnt that the decision to fire Persaud-Edwards was made by the Chronicle’s Board of Directors.

The Board has also suspended editor Raschid Osman.

He is the editor who was on duty at the time when the editorial was written.

The editorial that sparked the rancor h was published on July 3, 2012, claimed that young African Guyanese youths are “socialized” by the opposition to rob and murder Indian Guyanese. The editorial concluded that “hatred of Indians is ingrained in their psyche.”
